About ACIO
The ACIO represents the interests of Australia and Australians in Taiwan. The Office comprises approximately sixty employees – Australia-based and locally employed staff, headed by the Representative (Alice Cawte). The make-up of the Office reflects the multi-faceted nature of the Australia-Taiwan relationship. Located in the President International Tower in Taipei, the office includes the Australian Business Centre, Australian Education International, Australian Visa Services, a Consular and Administrative Section, a Media and Culture Unit, and an Economic and Policy Section.

POLICY RESEARCH OFFICER
(FULL-TIME)
POSITION DESCRIPTION
DUTIES
Under direction of the Manager, Policy Research Unit, provide administrative and policy support to the Economic and Policy Section and carry out research tasks, including:
• Research in the Chinese-language press and other sources to prepare reports on economic and political developments (50%)
• Translating Chinese-language articles and correspondence (25%)
• Accompany senior ACIO officers on calls and prepare reports (10%)
• Provide administrative support to the Section (10%)
• Act in the absence of the Manager, Policy Research Unit (5%)
Selection Criteria
Essential
1. Native-speaker or near native-speaker proficiency in English, and a high level of fluency in Mandarin Chinese.
2. Tertiary qualifications at Bachelor degree level or higher, preferably with a major in politics, economics, international trade or other relevant areas.
3. Strong analytical capacity and proficiency in research and writing reports.
4. Demonstrated ability to plan and organise; ability to work with limited supervision, to initiate and set priorities and meet deadlines.
5. Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team.
6. Competence with common office computer applications.
Desirable
7. Familiarity with economic and political issues in Taiwan
8. Be available to commence at the beginning of March.
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
Appointment will be on a one-year contract basis renewable by mutual agreement. Normal working hours will be 0845 – 1715 Monday to Friday. Salary will be approximately NTD72,000 per month (1 AUD equals appox. NTD28). Other benefits include Chinese New Year bonus (two month salary), performance bonus, pension scheme and insurance.
Note: This is a locally engaged position. There are no additional expatriate benefits available. ACIO will assist non-Taiwanese residents to apply for an appropriate working permit and Alien Resident Certificate. A three-month probationary period applies to all new ACIO employees.
