2007澳洲國慶酒會
澳大利亞商工辦事處代表 華適文 先生 致詞稿
It is my great pleasure to welcome all our guests here tonight on the occasion of Australia Day.
我感到非常榮幸今晚在這裡歡迎大家參加澳洲國慶酒會。
While the date of Australia Day – 26 January – marks the establishment of the first European settlement in Australia, to modern multicultural Australia, the day means much more. Given that it’s mid-summer, it is a day for all Australians to leave their home, go outdoors and participate in and enjoy the many activities that the various communities stage to celebrate Australia’s nationhood and its traditions of freedom, democracy and openness to newcomers all of which have made it an attractive destination for migrants.
一月26日澳洲國慶的本意，是紀念歐洲人初次抵達澳洲殖民，然而對於今天多元文化的澳洲來說，這一天是有更深遠的意義。澳洲此時正值盛夏， 這一天對所有澳洲人來說，就是走出家門，到戶外去參加、並享受由各種不同族群和社團所主辦，來慶祝澳洲建國暨其自由和民主的傳統。今天我們同時也慶祝澳洲對新移民開放和歡迎的傳統，這些都是澳洲之所以能吸引移民的主因。
One of the many migrant communities in Australia is the Taiwanese community, now some 50,000 strong. Half of that number live in Brisbane and today the Brisbane Taiwanese community has been joining in activities, with other Australians, to celebrate our national day.
有五萬多的台灣移民，佔澳洲許多移民社團中的一部份，有一半以上定居在布里斯本，今天，在布里斯本的台灣人社團，也像其他澳洲人一樣，參加各種活動，來慶祝我們的國慶。
The Taiwanese community in Australia is an important link between Australia and Taiwan. But it is just one part of a highly diverse relationship, that is vitally important to Australia and its people.
澳洲和台灣多元雙邊關係對澳洲和澳洲人來說，意義重大。在澳洲的台灣人社團，也是聯繫澳洲和台灣的重要環結，然而，這僅僅是澳台雙邊關係的一部份。
The relationship between Taiwan and Australia is one of substance, rather than mere formality. The substantive content is not solely economic. While Taiwan may be Australia’s 8th largest merchandise export market, other aspects, particularly the people-to-people links through education, tourism, culture and, of course, migration are also drivers of the relationship. The Australian Scholarships to be presented later this evening are further testimony to the strengthening of our ties.
台灣和澳洲的關係是重實質，而不是單純的形式。台灣是澳洲的第八大商品出口市場，然而澳台雙邊關係不只是經濟上的往來，在其他方面，特別是透過教育、觀光、文化和移民，所建立的民間關係，也是雙邊關係的重要推手。
Strategically, Australia sees Taiwan as a key member of the region. The future of Taiwan is a determining factor in the future of the region. In this regard, Australia has warmly welcomed the development of democracy in Taiwan. It has also admired Taiwan’s economic progress and its technological ingenuity. We therefore wish to see a future where we, together, use our skills and resources for the betterment of the Asia/Pacific region.
在戰略上，澳洲視台灣為本區域的主要成員，台灣的未來對於本區域的未來，具有決定性的影響，在這方面，澳洲非常歡迎台灣的民主發展，也很高興看到台灣經濟的成長，和技術研發的精巧。因此，我們希望將來共同運用我們的技能和資源，讓亞太區域變得更好。
May I particularly welcome here tonight members of our Australian community. You also play an important part in the bilateral relationship whether it be professional in the context of an organization such as ANZCham, as a businessperson, a teacher, a student or in personal contribution you make within the local society.
我想特別歡迎今晚出席的澳洲社團成員們，您們也對促進雙邊關係，扮演相當重要的角色，不論是諸如澳紐商會這樣的架構下，以經商人、教師、學生這樣專業的角色，或是您在台灣社會中所做出的個人貢獻。
I would note in that context that we have a new addition to the Australian community here with the launch today of an iconic Australian brand ‘Blackmores’ in the Taiwan market: Blackmores, the makers of health products, has been a household name in Australia for generations.
在我剛提到的架構下，今天我想特別為您介紹澳洲在台灣市場新添的一個成員，也就是相當具有代表性的澳洲品牌 – Blackmores，今天正式進入台灣市場，Blackmores生產保健產品，在澳洲是家喻戶曉、數代相傳的品牌。
For those who were with us for the charity concert celebrating 25th Anniversary of ACIO in August last year, I would like to inform you that the money raised will be donated to Dr Huang Tsun-Sheng’s Cochlear Foundation, and used as scholarship fund for the hearing-impaired, who have already received a Cochlear Ear implant, to pursue further study. I would also add that efforts to have bionic ear implants covered by Taiwan’s National Health Scheme are continuing.
對曾參加在去年八月、為慶祝澳大利亞商工辦事處成立二十五週年所舉辦慈善音樂會的朋友們，我想知會您們，當晚音樂會所募得的部份收入，將會捐贈給財團法人黃俊生電子耳基金會，並提供給裝置人工電子耳的聽障朋友，做為進修的獎學金。而且，我們仍會持續推動電子耳植入手術，納入台灣健保。
In conclusion, I would again like to thank all our guests for helping us celebrate this evening. I hope you enjoy the Australian wine, oysters and beef. I would now ask you to raise you glass for a toast to long and lasting friendship between Australia and Taiwan.
最後，我想再次感謝今晚所有參與慶祝這場盛會的賓客們，並請各位享用澳洲葡萄酒、生蠔和牛肉。現在，請各位一起舉杯，慶祝澳洲與台灣長長久久的友誼。
