Electronic Travel Authority (ETA)

An Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) is a visa but there is no stamp or label in your passport. Approved applications are electronically recorded on Australian Government systems. When you arrive at an airport for check-in on a flight to Australia, the check-in staff can electronically confirm that you have authority to board the flight to Australia.

To be granted an ETA, you must be the holder of an ETA eligible passport. A list of ETA eligible passports is available at ETA Eligible Passports.

For further information, see the Department of Immigration and Citizenship’s website for: ETA

Taiwan passport holders - How to apply?

You can apply for an ETA through selected travel agents across Taiwan. Most ETAs will be issued on-the-spot at the travel agents. A list of travel agents is at: ETA Travel Agents

If you have been advised to apply for your ETA at AVS you can do so by completing the ETA Application Form lodging it with a notarised copy of your passport biodata page or your orginal passport with the AVS by post.

Taiwan non-resident passport holders- How to apply?

If you do not have permanent residence in Taiwan and a Taiwan ID card, you will need to lodge your visa application using your passport of other citizenship. You should contact AVS on 02- 8725 4250 for assistance.
