Studying in Australia
If you intend to undertake full-time study in Australia, you will need to apply for a Student visa.
If your study is classified as Assessment Level 1 (which is determined by the passport you hold and the education sector for which you are seeking a visa) you can apply for a Student visa online on the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship's website. See: Online Student visa applications. If you are resident in Taiwan and do not wish to apply online, or are not eligible to apply online, you may lodge an application at Australian Visa Services in Taipei.
Currently, Taiwan passport holders are all considered as Assessment Level 1 - except for applicants who are undertaking a course in the Vocational Education and Training sector (subclass 572). More information is available on Student visa Assessment Levels on the website of the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship.
A checklist has been developed to assist Taiwan passport holders who wish to lodge a Student visa application at Australian Visa Services in Taipei. See: Student Visa Checklist.
If you are not the holder of a Taiwan passport, you should instead read the detailed information about Student visas on the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship's website. See: Studying in Australia
Family Members of Student visa holders (Student Dependants)
If you wish to apply to join a family member who is in Australia as the holder of a Student visa you will need to apply for the same student visa subclass as your family member. To be granted a student visa due to your relationship with a nominating student, you must be the spouse of the student (including de-facto spouse), or the dependent child of the nominating student or their spouse.
A checklist has been developed to assist eligible family members of Taiwan passport holders who wish to lodge a Student visa application (as a dependent of the nominating student) at Australian Visa Services in Taipei. See: Student Dependent checklist.
If you wish to study in Australia for more than 3 months, you should apply for your own student visa (ie. as the ‘primary applicant’).
Student Guardian Visas
If you are under 18 years of age, or have physical or cultural requirements for an adult companion to accompany you to Australia, your parent, legal custodian or relative may be eligible for a Student Guardian visa.
For further information on lodging a Student Guardian visa application at Australian Visa Services in Taipei, you may download the Student Guardian Visa Checklist.
More detailed information on Student Guardian visas is available on the website of the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship. See: Student Guardians.
