Electronic Travel Authority (ETA)
An Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) is equivalent to a visa, but there is no stamp or label in your passport. Approved applications are electronically recorded on Australian Government systems. When you arrive at an airport for check-in on a flight to Australia, the airline check-in staff can electronically confirm that you have authority to board the flight to Australia.
To be granted an ETA, you must be the holder of an ETA eligible passport. A list of ETA eligible passports is available at ETA Eligible Passports.
How to apply?
Some ETA eligible passport holders can apply online at www.eta.immi.gov.au. For a complete list of who can apply for an ETA online, see ETA Eligible Passports - Online Applications. Please note that an application for a Long Validity Business ETA cannot be lodged online.
You may also lodge an application for an ETA at Australian Visa Services. In this case, you should provide your passport, Taiwan ID/ARC card, flight itinerary and a completed copy of the ETA Registration Form. You may be asked to provide additional documents when you lodge your application.
Taiwan passport holders can apply for an ETA through an approved ETA Travel Agent in Taiwan. For a list of current ETA agents see ETA Travel Agents.
